Today Kotaku had a video for Red Faction Guerrilla that features some people I used to work with. It details a "new weapon" for the game...The Ostrich Hammer. The video is hilarious, IMO, and frankly the idea of the weapon is actually kind of cool..albeit in a twisted way.

Of course, this video makes me sorta homesick, for working there. I'll get over it eventually.

I had an accident on I-74 and wiped out my Mustang. I'm not hurt, but my car is toast and luckily no one else was harmed in my accident. I was changing lanes and hit a patch of ice, losing control of the car. I was starting to regain control when I hit the guardrail with the left headlight area. I have no recollection of what happened next. I found myself spun around the other way, in the other lane, with my car in pieces. The driver side door won't even close completely.
I then spent all day stuck in the Apple Tree diner in Veedersburg, Indiana. The car got towed to an inpound yard, to be picked up by my repair shop tomorrow, I assume. Then the rental car that was supposed to come get me never showed, stuck somewhere further east in Indiana with no other rental cars available in the area. Then there was the fact that my house keys were still in the wrecked car. I finally did acquire my keys and secure a ride home, but only at the tremendous generosity of the owners of the diner I was trapped in for something like 6 hours. To them, I owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude.

Oh...and Kailey was in the car with me. She's fine now, but was pretty skittish for a long time afterwards. She even got to have some very healthy socialization time with patrons of the diner, even another dog. She was pretty good for the most part.
Here are the pics. I warn you, they aren't pretty. My baby is in critical condition, possibly dead.

Bring on the CARnage )

I just saw the news about the big train wreck in Chatsworth. All of you who live out there, please check in, just for my own piece of mind. Thank you.

I read this joke on Finheaven's message boards today and thought it funny enought to share.

A Dolphins fan was driving when he spotted a Pats fan walking along the road. For fun, he swerved near him, veering away just in time.

Though he was certain he had missed the guy, he heard a loud THUD.
The Dolphins fan glanced in his mirrors but didn't see anything. "What was that?" he asked friend in the back seat. "I thought I missed that Pats fan."
"You did" replied his friend, "But I got him with the door."

And to this I add...  18-1!  Most Colossal CHOKE in professional sports history!!!

Some of you know this already, but I am no longer at Volition.  I was fired on January 30th.  It was mostly my fault and I'm moving on with my life, but that's not what this post is about.  This post is about a some truly awful news I learned a while back.  One of the first guys I worked with at Volition was Chris Allen, an english teacher turned designer, who was one of the finest, gentlest, most upstanding guys I've ever known.

Two days after my birthday, he lost his life in some uttlerly random natural causes manner.  I don't know a lot of the details, but I do know that when I found out, I broke down and cried.  It wasn't right, wasn't fair, for someone as genuinely funny, caring, bright, and welcoming as Chris to be taken from those who love him so suddenly and at such a young age.  He was 35.  Not being at Volition when this happened hurts more than anyhing, as I had to find out well after he passed and from someone who mentioned it as a "oh by the way, did you hear...".  The person who told me knew that I'd worked with Chris very closesly in my first year at Volition and he didn't know if I'd heard or not.  Today I found this:

It's a lovely tribute to a truly great guy.  He'll be missed by a LOT of people, the least of which is me.  Goodbye Chris...I hope someday to work again with someone even a 10th of the man you were.

This article is a story about the guy who was the QB of the Dolphins when I first became a fan. He's a large part of why I became such a diehard fan. I'd always wondered what had happened to him. I found out via a Google search sometime in 2005 or so, I think, but this article is a much more detailed account of what happened to the man I once idolized. It's the story of his ascent to football god and subsequent descent into alcoholism, which lead to his death. His story is a tragic one, but one worth reading.

I wonder how long before Nintendo picks up on this. It certainly would make an FPS game a HELLUVA lot more immersive!
